Eversley’s new co-driver, Tyler Stone, was able to make up several positions during his stint despite numerous yellow flags, working his way up to 12th place before handing over to Ryan Eversely before the halfway point of the two-hour race.

Once behind the wheel of the Civic Type R TCR, Eversley continued to carve his way through the field. Running fourth as he started the final lap, Eversley made his final move on the final corner, catapulting the #94 to second at the flag.

The #88 VGMC Racing Honda unfortunately ended their final IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge race of 2021 off course just after the mid-race driver change. Owner/driver Victor Gonzalez started, and ran as high as seventh before handing their Civic Type R TCR over to co-driver Karl Wittmer. During the stop, an issue was noted with the front wheel studs.  Wittmer returned to the track, but lost a front wheel just a few laps later, ending their race.

Quotes

Ryan Eversley (#94 Atlanta Speedwerks Honda Civic Type R TCR) finished second: “I honestly feel like this was a win for us! I was absolutely screaming in the car, my voice is gone. [Co-driver] Tyler [Stone] did a great job, and I’m happy put our Honda back on the podium for the last race of the year. I’m happy for HPD, the Atlanta Speedwerks guys, and of course for Tyler making his debut. And, it’s great to race here at home at Road Atlanta. My mom and dad are right over there, my sisters are here, and on the cooldown lap, I could see so many Honda, ‘Believe in Orange’ and ‘Dinner With Racers’ stuff. There’s so much support here and to reward it with a podium is awesome.”

Tyler Stone (#94 Atlanta Speedwerks Honda Civic Type R TCR) finished second: “I’m almost speechless. The Honda Civic was fabulous, it was really strong. My main goal was just to hand over a clean car to Ryan, and we were successful in doing that! I think that enabled us to bring home a podium. I was having a blast out there. I was trying as hard as I could to move up as far as I could, that’s what Ryan asked me to do beforehand. I typically race better than I qualify, and I think that was true in this race too!”
